How to Beat The Hippokampos in Final Fantasy XIV

You’ll discover a method to seal the creatures running rampant in Pandaemonium after defeating Erichthonios and recruiting him to your cause. The Hippokampos, the second boss, is an excellent target for putting that method to the test. In Asphodelos: The Second Circle, here’s how to beat The Hippokampos.

How to Beat The Hippokampos in Final Fantasy XIV?

Murky Depths, a very damaging AoE that must be healed through, will be used by the Hippokampos to start the fight. Healers, this attack will be used frequently throughout the fight, so have an AoE heal on hand. Doubled Impact, a tankbuster that attacks both of your tanks, will immediately follow.

The next attack is Spoken Cataract, which is one of the most dangerous. The head and body of the Hippokampos will split and point in two different cardinal directions.

You want to go to the corner that isn’t in either path — and hug that corner because the head beams will cover half of the room. If the head is facing north and the body is facing west, for example, you should head southeast to avoid damage.

It will cast Murky Depths again after two casts of Spoken Cataract before casting Sewage Deluge. This is yet another massive AoE attack, but this time the arena is altered. Because the rest of the area has been flooded with wastewater, the only safe zones for movement are the grates on the ground.

It will begin casting Tainted Flood in this new arena, which will require you to space your character away from other characters while remaining on the limited space walkways.

Then there’ll be Mark of Easy Prey. Simply stand next to someone who is wearing a red arrow over their head. It doesn’t matter if there are a lot of party members or only one, as long as you’re standing next to someone.

It will then unleash a Shockwave in one of the corners. You must position yourself so that the blast propels you along the walkways, or you will perish.

The water will then recede, and the arena will return to its previous state. The Hippokampos will cast Dissociation right away, sending its head to one side of the arena, denying you any time to rest. To avoid damage, keep an eye on the edges to locate the head and move to the opposite side.

Coherence comes next. Two players will be targeted: one tank and one random non-tank. The tank will have to run away from the rest of the group with their marker (a pulsing triangle), while the non-tank target will have to stack with everyone else. If you don’t move these two markers away from each other, you’ll die.

You’ve seen every attack from The Hippokampos from this vantage point. It will switch between wet and dry phases while combining Sewage Deluge and Spoken Cataract. You should have no trouble finishing this creature if you keep an eye on the boss and position yourself appropriately.
